Plot: Yusuke is your average high-school going, trouble-making punk. That is until one day when he dies an untimely death, coincidently while forming a saintly act for once. Due to this, those of the spirit realm decide to give him another chance at life. But as usual: there’s a catch.

Yusuke must earn his way back into the world of the living. Once this is complete, the Prince of the Underworld, Koenma, wants Yusuke to become a Sprit Realm Detective. The job requires that Yusuke battle Demon Realm creatures called Makai (antagonists of the series), and return them to Reikai - the Spirit World. On his journey he joins up with a fire demon called Hiei, the human reincarnation of the nine-tailed fox Kurama, and local bully Kuwabara Kazuma.

Interesting fact: When Tate Kubo - the creator of BLEACH - first submitted his manga to Shonen Jump, it was initially rejected for having too many similarities to Yu Yu Hakusho. Good thing he didn't give up or Bleach wouldn't exist today!
