A deck of cards, or a sketchbook in case you get bored -- a psp, or an Ipod can get stolen so be careful if you bring one.Don’t forget to:
Sleep – it’s easy to forget this at a three day convention with so many things going on. But trust me, by the third day you’ll really feel the effects of staying up so long. You’ll be irritable, have no energy, and feel downright sick! Get at least 6 hours a night, but 7 is ideal.
Eat – this is another thing that can slip your mind at a convention. But try to eat every 3-4 hours to keep your metabolism and energy up! Bring some extra money especially for food, so you don’t end up spending it all on plushies and art, and then starving! D=
a. food is usually sold at the convention in the hotel, by staff etc. but is often price and tastes bad.
b. Scope the area for fast food restaurants (Tim Hortons is perfect in the morning if you feel like a muffin and coffee for under $2.00) or better yet stock up on fruits and other foods at a local grocery store.
If there are restaurants around the convention (which there usually is) you’ll be tempted to eat out each day. BUT DON’T. Eating out each day can really do a number on your wallet after a while. What me and my friends do is we chose one day to eat out at a restaurant, usually the Saturday, and the Friday night we bring our own food from home and share, like a potluck. xD
**Tips: You might want to eat out for dinner, but instead eat out for lunch. The lunch menu in most restaurants is the same as the dinner menu except cheaper.
Drink water – bring lots of bottled water, and drink it often. Your body won’t tell you that you’re thirsty. In fact when you feel thirsty you are actually dehydrated so drink, drink, drink! =) p.s. coffee, and pop will contain caffeine and will only make you feel thirstier. =o
Great Snack Food
Although it’s tempting to grab a bag of chips and a package of skittles for a convention, please remember: they are junk. That’s why they’re called junkfood. They won’t keep you full, or give you energy or be of any nutritional value to you whatsoever. But *sigh* they are yummy. So I won’t tell you to give them up. Just eat them in moderation along with some healthier foods that will keep you energized, and healthy at your first (or next) convention. =3
Here’s a list of some delicious snack ideas. Mix and match from the list below and I’m sure you’ll be eating healthy, have lots of energy, and not sacrificing your favourite junkfoods. 8D
- Lunchables
- Pre-packaged snacks (mini oreo cookies, chips)
- Nuts - A handful will keep you full for hours and they’re good for you.
- Juice boxes
- Pocky (it’s cheaper to buy them before the con, since pocky at cons are usually overpriced)
- Cereal bars
- A baggie with carrot and celery sticks
- Sliced fruit in a container, or fruit cups
- Dried fruit
- Beef jerky
- Ramen noodle (or any kind of instant noodles)
- Yogurt
- Sliced cheese
- Mini muffins
- Two-bite brownies
Have I forgotten a totally great snack? Email it to me and I’ll add it pronto!
