Picture Etiquette and the Media

VII. Picture Etiquette and the Media

Picture Etiquette

If you wear a costume to a convention EXPECT TO HAVE YOUR PICTURE TAKEN. Ditto if you’re dressed visual kei, or happen to look particularly good. Now, most people will ask to take your picture, as they should because it’s common courtesy. But others who are either less bold, or want to photograph you looking “natural” will pull a “snap n run.” That is, they will take your picture without asking you and then run . . . er . . . walk away. Generally, this will happen so often that it’s not worth getting annoyed over otherwise you’ll be quite an angry fellow, so yeah just consider it a compliment. =\

*Tips

  • It’s always better to practice a few poses, and facial expressions at home so you’ll know how to pose and what you’re pose will look like at a convention. That way you can take the best pictures possible.

  • Though not as polite as asking, snapping and running is acceptable (so long as the cosplayer is already posing for someone else). But if you ask someone for their picture and they say “no,” be respectful of their decision and walk away. It’s rude to take their picture anyway, since most pictures end up on the web and they may not want to be all over the internet.

  • Things to bring: Bring loads of batteries and film. It sucks to run out of them and even if there are stores near the convention that sell batteries and film, they will jack up the price! So evil. So make sure you bring enough and record all the silly moments you and you’re friends have. XD

Media

Several television stations attend and cover conventions, so at one point or another you might be on T.V! If that thought disturbs or frightens you more than it excites you . . . well there isn’t much you can do. I guess if you see anyone with those huge studio camcorders then ah … duck and run!

Tip

Popular television hosts have attended many conventions in the past, so keep a look out and you may just see some of your favourites. Ex. YTV is known for having footage of Anime North each year, and its’ hosts have attended A.N. for years. =3
