In his last words, Gold Roger promised his treasure to anyone who could find it, and so pirates from across the world were driven to the seas to search for it. Monkey D. Luffy, Captain of the Straw Hats Pirates, is blessed and cursed for having eaten a devil’s fruit called “Gum Gum Fruit.” The fruit gives him the ability to stretch his body like gum or rubber, but causes him to sink instantly in water. Yes, he’s a pirate who can’t swim. The anime follows Luffy and his crew as they journey through the sea of East Blue and then the Grand Line (the treasure is said lay at the end). They travel the path of the deceased Pirate King, encountering other pirate crews and members of the World Government who are trying to end the Golden Age of Pirates and put a stop to the worldwide search for One Piece.
