Hotel Rooms
III. Hotel Room – hot tips for peeps who plan to room in a hotel a. Some conventions last more than one day. Usually, they are an entire weekend event. (Friday to Sunday) If you live close enough to walk then good for you. (I keed =p) But for those of us not lucky enough to live so close, who don’t want to drive or take the bus each day, we have the option of hotels. Larger conventions expect people from all over the country, sometimes even the world, to attend. Therefore, they will make arrangements with hotels in the area to obtain cheaper rates for con-goers. In order to see if the convention you’re attending will give you this awesome deal, you should check the website for information like hotel names, addresses, and phone numbers. Once you find this info, give the hotel a call. Make sure you mention the name of the convention so they’ll give you the discount rate. Voila! You just saved moneh! =D b. Sharing isn’t always Caring. The more people in a room, the less you each have to pay for it. But don’t over do it. Hotel managers won’t like 10 people in a one room, there’s not enough space and the noise volume could get you in trouble. The last thing you want is a hotel manager telling you or your friends to leave a hotel room in the middle of a convention. So don’t take stupid chances. A single bedroom can fit about 1-3 people. And a double hotel room can actually fit about 5 people, since there’s usually a pullout couch that turns into a bed (2 people can sleep there) and a king-sized bed (perfect for 2-3 people). It’s tempting to try and squeeze many people into a room to keep the cost really low but remember comfort is important too. So don’t try to pack your room full like a can of sardines. Sardines stink! *Tips c. Smell You Never. Make sure everyone showers. I know you can’t control others and their personal hygiene but the hotel room will start to smell if people don’t practice proper hygiene. Also, keep the room temperature chill so people don’t sweat which also causes odors. Old food should be disposed of immediately and not left lying around the room to rot and stink. ;_; d. You don’t have to rent a hotel every time you go to a convention. Unless you really want to. LOL But if the convention only lasts a day, or you live close enough to walk then you’re very lucky! If you need somewhere to put your stuff in the daytime without having to make the trip home every few hours, ask a friend who’s renting a hotel room if you can stash your stuff there till you go home. If you live close to a con there’s no point in renting a hotel. Hotel rooms don’t make conventions more fun, you can still have a great time without renting one. It’s completely up to you. *Cautions Stuck on my Ella, E-ella-vator If you go to a con that is run in a hotel: sometimes the ELEVATORS ARE NOT THE FASTEST WAY TO GET AROUND. Hotel elevators can get extremely crowded during conventions and at times using the stairs is the quickest way to get from point A to point B. This may not be true if your room is up on the 20th floor and you need to get to the 1st floor, but if it’s fairly close to the 1st floor, two or three flights if stairs isn’t that bad a walk. Plus, it’s great exercise. Win win. XD When boarding an elevator, especially at night (but anytime of day really) always be aware of your surroundings, and the other people on the elevator. Unfortunately, anything can happen anywhere at any moment, and there are creeps at conventions just like anywhere else. If you see someone in an elevator who looks suspicious, or you just get a bad vibe from them, don’t shrug it off and go on the elevator. Simply wait for the next one or take the stairs. “Aw, but taking the elevator with the creepy, pedo-looking guy is faster!” So what? Nothing is worth risking your safety.
