Definitions
Know these terms well. ^^ AMV: means Anime Music Video. These are music videos made by fans using clips from various anime series, and combining them with North American music. Con: short for an anime convention or venue, ex. Comic-Con. Crossplay and Cross-dressing: the act of dressing up as a character of the opposite sex. Ex. a female cosplayer who dresses up as Sasuke Uchiha (a male from the anime series Naruto) is cross-playing and cross-dressing.But a male cosplayer who dresses up as Shuichi Shindou, (a male from the anime series Gravitation, known for wearing female clothes) would only be cross-dressing since the anime character is really male. Group cosplay: when two or more people dress up as characters from the same series (anime, manga, game, etc.) Glomp: an unexpected/unwanted hug from a fellow anime convention goer. Not recommended however, because one might end up hurting the person they glomp, or breaking a part of their cosplay outfit. Asking for a hug is 1000x more appreciated . . . and safer. LARP: stands for Live Action Role Play. It’s a form of role-playing game where the players actually cosplay and act out their characters in real life. Masquerade: is a competition where cosplayers can show off that extra special costume they’ve been working on. In some cases the time limit is 1 minute so the focus is more on costume design. Skit: Similar to the masquerade, however it has a time limit of approximately 5 minutes. Cosplayers who crave the spotlight can perform a skit, dance, act, comedy or anything else they can think of. They may compete alone or with a group to win prizes. Tip: Make sure to bring your camera, and if it records video that even better. Skits can be so funny, or crazy or good that you’ll want to watch them over again, or put the on YouTube to share with others. XD
